On the Job: Day 43, 8-12

Hello!

More of the dance floor is down. We could see floor to ceiling on both sides of the stage today. It was incredible. Of course, you can't take a very good picture just yet since most of the scaffolding is still in place, but boy is it cool to see in person.

Dan made the executive decision today that we will not be putting a sealant on the boxes. Sealants have a few risks (such as becoming cloudy over dark spaces, coloring over time, and trapping unwanted moisture) that outweigh the benefits at this point in the mural's life. That being said- We are literally days away from completion. Under Dan's estimation, we will be done this coming Wednesday at the earliest and a tentative Thursday at the latest. LESS THAN ONE WEEK!

The Doom Box was finished today, not a touch up left to be found.... except for that one little corner that I have been instructed to forget about hahaha. Micah and I did our happy dances- see our excited faces?

Jobs are super hard to come by. I'm going to work with Micah again tomorrow- softly scrubbing boxes until they're dust-free. Next week, people involved with the process book will probably not be working in the auditorium, but rather, we will meet and further our progress with the Process Book we've been minimally neglecting lately. I'll take pictures when the whole thing is done, and hopefully we'll be allowed in later to see it once all the scaffolding is completely down from the center of the room.

On the Job: Day 39, 8-5

Didn't take many pictures today. Dan wasn't around so we didn't really do all that much. We got some minor house cleaning done- taped off some shapes, worked on some touch ups.... Child's play really. Dan is taking the day off tomorrow too, and I think we all decided like that sounded nice.

I sound like a huge dork on the radio. I like that they describe Dan as having "wavy chin-length brown hair and a stubbly beard." Made my day.

On the Job: Day 34, 7-29

Pretty uneventful day. Got a second coat of the huge blue chunk up on seven that I had started yesterday. Micah and I are touching up our box again (the one with the hole after hole after hole) and that seems to be chugging along still.... Uh..... That's all really. I took tomorrow off to go home and celebrate my mom's birthday in St. Louis so I won't be documenting day 35 tomorrow, but I asked Lance to take some photos though so the day still gets documented. Our NPR story aired this morning- did anyone catch it? I'll post the link tomorrow when I find it. I think it's exciting that after our first radio interview aired we got our first votes for "read about the blog or heard about it on the net." Sweet- keep telling your friends about us and don't forget to check out the links to the other blogs our kids work on! Cheers. 

On the Job: Day 30, 7-22

Uhm. Er. What?

Micah and I painted a lot today. I washed my brush out at least ten times, which is a new personal record.

Don't know if any of you knew this or not, but we have no running water inside of the building. We have three buckets that we fill with water every day that we use to wash our brushes in. Then, at the end of the day, we have to go dump the buckets, rinse them out, and finish washing the brushes outside with a hose in a pile of sand. We call it "going to the beach." It's hot like a beach, but generally noisier and smells pretty bad since it skirts the port-a-potties.

We are NOT working tomorrow, so day 31 will be on Monday and you probably won't get a post from me tomorrow. Note: I did say "probably."

We're having the third process book meeting tonight instead of tomorrow since we're not painting tomorrow. Guess I'll post those pics later too haha. Wow, I'm a blog-aholic. Oh well. By the way, we just hit 20 followers! Woo!

Dan had a delayed reaction with getting/sending out this email so we'll have to wait until tomorrow to get the online link to the radio bit.... Looks like that "probably" is already decided upon.

On the Job: Day 25, 7-15

Day 25. Took some more video today- an interview with Todd and Blake and a bit of tomfoolery. We got the second coat of Nuclear Winter on the walls, as well as a bit of Grimace Fur purple and the Huge teal stripe that Lance has named Weak Sauce. Sweet.

Special: Blake's birthday was today- HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLAKE!!!!!!!

On The Job: Day Twenty, 7-8

Woah... I can't believe we've only been at this for twenty days! We've gotten so much done it's incredible. We got paint on two of the top floor walls on the right side of the stage today which is amazing (I say that a lot and I'm sorry, but it really does just blow my mind!). I think we're going to get some scaffolding tomorrow after all which will help tremendously. The last image down below is of a cup of burnt umber, aka Anita Blake Black, which I named after one of my favorite book characters. Woo. 

On the Job: Day Sixteen, 7-1

It seems like the last few days have moved verrrry slowly, but we officially have someone working on the top floor which is pretty super-duper! Managed to take some pretty cool photos today after working on the same red-to-blue line ALL day. Curves are my number one enemy right now, but I'm sure Micah and I will beat that line into submission first thing tomorrow! 

On the Job: Day Eleven, 6-24

Day Eleven... Well... we were so productive today that I only took three pictures. That should tell you somethin' for sure. We have moved to the left side of the stage and things are definitely still chugging along. We have started naming some of our colors that end up on the walls. We have a pink named after Mark Salmon and an amazing blue that has been dubbed "Super Smurf Blue" which is appropriate considering how small of a space it covered. Luke had the brilliant idea that we should add in all of the paint colors and their names to our process book. I can't wait!
